Tubes' Diary
Hungry for love
A starving Tubes gears up for Valentine's Day
Last updated: 12th February 2010
I couldn't run, which doesn't really help when you're trying to play football. So this week, I have adopted a new diet. I have been eating lots of peanuts, one slice of brown toast for breakfast, that kind of thing.

Quotes of the week
I should really start by reminding you all that my prediction for Chelsea-Arsenal was spot-on! But I take no great satisfaction in saying that, simply because I wasn't brave enough to put my money where my mouth was.
Even walking to the Bridge on Sunday, I passed a bookies and was certain we would win 2-0 and that Didier Drogba would score first, but for some reason didn't go in and place a bet. It would've been pretty good odds, I'm sure. Oh well, next time!
The game was fairly straightforward for us and I didn't really understand Arsene Wenger's comments afterwards, saying we didn't play any football. The second goal looked like pretty decent football to me, all the way from our penalty box to their goal. Maybe he didn't see it.
That was pretty much the footballing highlight of the week because Chelsea of course, got beat at Everton on Wednesday. John Terry didn't look like he was there and I can understand why he's been given some time off and now we've just lost Ashley Cole for three months.
I am not going to moan because there are too many Chelsea fans who do that, but Everton is the sort of game we should be winning. I suppose it makes the title race more interesting and it looks like it will be the most exciting for years; for the neutrals at least.
My own football didn't go so well last Saturday. It was the first game back after all the snow and wet weather and while I expected to be a little rusty, I didn't think it would be that bad! Basically I couldn't run, which doesn't really help when you're trying to play football.
Starving
So this week, I have adopted a new diet. I have been eating lots of peanuts, one slice of brown toast for breakfast, that kind of thing. If it's good enough for the professionals it's good enough for me and there's nothing wrong with a little health kick now and then - except that I'm starving!
Work-wise it's been another busy week. On Tuesday I met Matt Damon, who was also at the Bridge on Sunday and is a top lad. He wasn't promoting that rugby film but one called Green Zone, which I have seen and is pretty good I have to say.
We had a quick chat about Chelsea and he seemed to know his stuff; although when I told him we smashed 'em at The Emirates earlier in the season, he just looked blankly at me and went 'Yeah man!'. I'm not sure he quite got what I meant!
Busy
I did an interview with Steve Coogan, which you can see on the show this week. I've got to say don't miss it because it does make great viewing! Not because we got on famously, but because we didn't really see eye-to-eye, shall we say!
I got there and the other people did suggest that he might not be in the most shall we say, talkative and welcoming moods, but that didn't bother me. I don't mind that myself because it can make good viewing - and you can't be lovey-dovey and mates with everyone all the time. Tune in on Saturday and you'll see for yourselves!
All that means I have been a little bit too busy to organise anything special for Valentine's Day... unless one of my girlfriend's mates is reading this (she never bothers!), in which case I have a lovely surprise up my sleeve, which I can't give away.
To be honest I am not one for all those soppy romantic gestures and we'll probably go out for a meal - although she seems to have taken a shine to dining at Gaucho, which is a little expensive for my liking. So it's just as well one of my mates works there!
Tubes answers your questions
When I say Top, you say Nosh. Top, Nosh, Top, Nosh... Tubes you really are a lyrical genius but what I want to know is if you were on Come Dine With Me what three courses would you cook?Jodie Finch (Chelsea fan)
Tubes replies:For a start Jodie I wouldn't bother too much with pudding, simply because I don't eat them. I would keep that nice and simple and go for vanilla ice cream. For the main course, I would serve up what has become my showpiece recipe; some ready-to-eat king prawns from Tesco's cooked with pasta and then covered in Nando's piri-piri sauce, which they also sell in Tesco's, which is a touch. My starter would have to be sushi, even though it's not technically a starter. As you can see Jodie, I would keep it pretty simple and focus more on the drinks and entertainment than the food. Although thinking about it those three courses will cost me a darn sight less than a meal at Gaucho!
