Meet Max!

Max: can't wait to start

Soccer AM has welcomed its newest member of the team; Max Rushden.

The new face for Soccer AM will join our very own first lady, Helen Chamberlain in a brand new studio for the start of the 2008-2009 season.

Max is a lifelong Cambridge United fan and joins the Soccer AM team from BBC London where he co-presented the Breakfast radio show.

The Sony award-winning presenter will make his debut in front of the nation on August 16th when the show is back on your screens and he told SoccerAM.com he can't wait to start...

Max on the show... I'm a massive fan of the show. I was actually on it on Boxing Day in 2000 as one of the Fans of the Week with some other Cambridge fans.

The car park game at the time was Chips which I think was probably a lot harder, it's got easier over the years. I scored one though and one bounced out which I'm still a little bit disappointed about, but I presume I'll get lots of time to practise now!

His first football memory... My first memory of watching football was sitting with my dad at half time and being 2-0 down to Exeter City in about 1986 and wondering, is this genuinely fun or not! But we drew 2-2 in the end so it was ok.

My first playing memory was scoring an own-goal for my scouts football team. I was about three years older than everyone else and I hit it with the outside of my boot into the bottom corner.

On Cambridge United... I was a season ticket holder for about 12 years and watched two years of complete dross. Then we had about five good years - we won our first ever play-off final at Wembley and got to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. The next year we won the old third division and got into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup again. The year after that we got into the play-offs to get into the Premier League and then it all went very horribly wrong.

His football hero... Well when I was young there was the right-winger for Cambridge called Michael Cheetham, he was very quick and skilful. I base my game on Teddy Sheringham - a very slow striker, first 20 yards are in the head, good touch, but I don't score any goals... is that a problem for a striker?

I only scored four last year for my local team, Polytechnic 6ths, in Chiswick and I had the same strike rate as Emile Heskey someone told me.

His TV hero... My TV hero is probably Jeff Stelling, but I'm also a big fan of Danny Baker and worked with him at BBC London World which was great.

His world records... I used to hold two world records. I did have the record for the longest ever radio show, which was six days in a shopping centre in Cambridge, but I think someone started to try and break it before I had even finished, so it actually took longer to get then what I held it for, but it was fun.

I also had the world record for the most number of people tied together to run the London Marathon, but then 25 coppers did it this year so they now hold the record. It was probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but it was a great feeling when it was over.
