O' brother, where art thou?

Family bragging rights up for grabs

O' brother, where art thou?

Football is full of rivalries but is there any greater than that between two brothers?

Over the last few seasons Soccer AM has been stoking the fires between the most competitive brothers in the Football League.

Each season these brothers fight it out to see who can score the most goals to claim the only bragging rights in the family that really matter. Forget what teams they play for and in which league, in this competition the only thing that matters is that number in the goals column.

This season five brothers have chosen to take their duels public and we will be keeping track of how they are performing on the show and here on the website too.

Going head to head will be the Caldwells, the Hunts, the Ferdinands, the Terrys and for the first time the Wright-Phillips'.

The rules are simple, only competitive club goals count and unlike the Golden Shoe and Espadrille it doesn't matter how many games they each play in.

Caldwell v Caldwell

It wasn't the most fruitful of weeks for either of the Caldwell brothers. After a spell on the subs bench, Celtic defender Gary regained his place in the Bhoys first team, but he was unable to prevent them from dropping two points in the goalless draw against Motherwell.

Meanwhile, brother Steven continued his comeback in a thrilling encounter at Ewood park as his Burnley side narrowly went down 3-2 to Blackburn in the East Lancashire derby.

Both men are yet to get on the scoresheet for their clubs this term, so it's still all to play for in Caldwell v Caldwell!

Ferdinand v Ferdinand

Having played back-to-back games for England and Manchester United, Rio Ferdinand appears to have overcome the niggling injuries which have disrupted his start to the current campaign.

Still without a goal this season, he will be looking to put that right in one of the biggest games of the season as United face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Younger brother Anton will no doubt have been giving him some tips this week after his Sunderland side recorded one of the results of the season, beating Liverpool 1-0 at the Stadium of Light last time out.

However most importantly Ferdinand v Ferdinand is still dead level with Anton having failed to score thus far this season too.

Hunt v Hunt

After a blistering start to the season, Stephen Hunt hasn't scored in his last seven games for Hull. His latest outing came in the Tigers' 2-0 defeat to Fulham on Monday night, while on Saturday Phil Brown's men take on fellow strugglers Portsmouth.

Like his brother, Noel has also been stuck on two goals for what seems like an eternity.

After their latest defeat to West Brom, Reading are now without a win in six matches and they will be hoping Noel can find his shooting boots when they take on Leicester on Monday.

Terry v Terry

It's 13 games without a goal for John Terry this season, but he won't be too concerned about that as Chelsea bounced back from Saturday's defeat to Aston villa with a emphatic 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid.

The England captain finished last season with three goals for Chelsea and he will still be confident of surpassing that total this term.

Meanwhile, Paul has played four games less than his brother, but he also finds himself without a goal thus far.

The Rushden & Diamonds midfielder has helped the conference side to back-to-back wins in recent weeks and they will be hoping their good run of form will continue when they take on Wokington in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Wright-Phillips v Wright-Phillips

Shaun Wright-Phillips continues to be the only sibling with an advantage in O' brother, where art thou?

The Manchester City winger leads his younger brother Bradley 1-0, and it appears, for the time being at least, as though things will remain like that after Bradley suffered a reoccurrence of the knee injury which saw him miss the start of the season.
